Impressions celebrates the works of the Print Club of Northern Kentucky University, Dennis Maher, Ki Jong Do, Christian Schmit, Mary Gaynier, and the photography of local students.

Ohio National Financial Services Gallery
Print Club of Northern Kentucky University, comprised of alumni, faculty and student Printmakers, will be presenting a group exhibition: Translations in Music, Words and Prints. Curated by Andrea Knarr this exhibition has over 30 printmakers who find their artistic inspirations from music and words to create one of a kind prints.

Duveneck Gallery
The sculptures of Dennis Maher evolve from reorganized remains of postindustrial urban sites. “On one level,” Maher explains, “my works offer an approach to reinvigorating vacant buildings through the reusing of urban waste, but on another, perhaps more abstract level, I want the resulting constructions to suggest, in their layered and textured surfaces, the contours of cities and landscapes that have yet to emerge.” Maher teaches architecture at the University of Buffalo in NY.

Rieveschl Gallery
Korean born artist Ki Jong Do presents paintings that examine the isolation, loneliness and solitude in modern cities and urban settings. Drawing from his environment and personal experiences to create this work, investigations of new, diverse and strange spaces is critical to the its development. Ki Jong Do credits American artists Eric Fischl and Edward Hopper as influences for his work.

Hutson Gallery
Local artist Christian Schmit is a graduate of the Art Academy of Cincinnati and is currently enrolled in graduate studies at the University of Cincinnati in fine arts and arts education.

Connector Gallery
Mary Gaynier’s has mastered the art of scherenschnitte, or paper cutting. Gaynier’s work, at first glance, reminds you of something everyone has done, cutting a snowflake out of folded paper, but the complexity of Gaynier’s work takes this traditional art form in new directions. It invites the viewer to investigate the intricate designs of everyday life and scenes masterfully cut into folded paper.

Children’s Gallery
Youth from around Covington will showcase their photography as a conclusion to their micro-enterprise program with The Center for Great Neighborhoods. In this collaboration with The Center for Great Neighborhoods and The Carnegie this program, now in its third year, develops artistic competence, while promoting entrepreneurial and leadership skills, productive workplace behavior and positive future and career orientation for the youth of Covington.
